Yes. It can also be seen as pushing us farther away from ourselves. Were it pushing us into ourselves, you’d think we’d understand ourselves even better. We’d become so familiar with ourselves we’d begin to resolve our old challenges — yet that doesn’t happen.

Perhaps it pushes us into our mental region, away from our Heart core, where the True Self is encountered. Just as we’re being rather stilted or phony with others while socializing, we’re also writing off the self/Self, largely ignoring it in favor of whatever’s coming through the headphones.
