It’s All Relative in 3D

Releasing the Mind’s Judgmental Ways, Entering Heart

There’s a tendency for us to judge others by our standards. Fair enough, that makes sense — until we go deeper, stepping back from the mind’s take on things to get a better look, a different perspective.

We have standards of cleanliness, today that were no part of prior centuries. Slavery & bond servitude was once common sense, fully accepted as the norm. A dark little secret is that black races enslaved blacks, selling them into a lifetime of bondage. It was never just a white-on-black business.

Are you surprised?

It’s good to allow ourselves to be surprised. It means we’re open, retaining our values, yet willing to investigate other, generally earlier values. We have much to learn by the contrast we find, such as black-on-black enslavement, such as earlier standards of cleanliness that will be even more shocking.

Palace of VersaillesVersailles’ dirty secrets — Toute L’Histoire

In this 52-minute documentary about France’s Palace of Versailles — Versailles’ dirty secrets — Toute L’Histoire we are deeply amazed to discover that, throughout the huge palace there was but one bathtub, one of marble — & it wasn’t in the king’s chambers. People neither bathed nor washed their clothes as we now do. (Only the undershirts were washed, ever.) 😲

What I’d like to suggest is that we not stand in judgment, applying our current standards to those from other ages, other places. Those who can sufficiently exit the mind-centric perspective immediately realize that such judgments make no sense.

You’re unsure of that?

Then consider, it’s a future age looking back on us, on this 21st century of which we’re so proud. To them, we’re perhaps filthy slobs, compared to their level of cleanliness. Or perhaps we’re seen as ridiculously clean, unbalanced fanatics in pursuit of ignorant ideas around hygiene, oblivious of “more important” things.

Hey, it’s possible. It’s no different than what we’re doing, now, judging others by today’s standards. That’s exactly how we tend to judge the earlier royal concepts around hygiene, among other things.

Morals & behavior are relative to their own century, their own location.

We do not come closer to understanding people & the ages they lived in by superimposing our standards over them. We draw farther apart from that understanding by being judgmental. Crossing the wires of our different ages short circuits any depth of understanding. It doesn’t help us know what made them tick, what they were about, what was important to them.

Let’s walk a mile in their moccasins before drawing any conclusions.

What’s fun, however, is how it illustrates our foolishness, the nonsense of our minds indulging in such cross-century judgment. It’s patently unfair to look down on them as the mind tends to do, so sure that its current standards are the “right” ones. Time will tell. It’s all relative.

Meanwhile, let’s let them be who they were without inserting ourselves, our customs & beliefs where they don’t belong.

I hope you’ll take an hour to watch the Versailles historical video to get a better sense of what it was like in the 14th to the 17th centuries. It’s quite shocking. The bevy of servants was absolutely necessary, for the hallways, nooks & crannies were the “bathrooms” of those times. It wasn’t just dirt being mopped & cleaned.

It’s a real eye-opener, something to give our arrogant minds pause, to then observe as they’re taken aback. It can help to step back & watch the self, Self watching self — very helpful in this age of The Great Awakening.

PS Besides, it’s more than likely that we were once them in our own earlier incarnations. A far deeper innerstanding is available to us than the mind has even a clue about. Let’s go within. 💖
