Great article — truly. Would that more ppl could truly hear it. For me, it partakes of a heart vs a head focus; head doesn’t get it, heart does.

Something I read years ago has been a real blessing down thru the years — switch out all of your “you statements” for “I statements.” It’s amazing in practice. We can only actually speak for ouselves, anyway. Even if we were in an almost identical situation before, it wasn’t & couldn’t be identical. We’re not them.

Almost all arguments & fights are driven by you-statements — you did this to me, you weren’t there for me when… , you’re full of it! etc. They’re all nonsense when viewed from heart, because we have no true idea where that person is coming from, what the backstory is, how they’re feeling & why… We just can’t know.

When we stick with only I-statements, we can’t be refuted, & for the same reason — they cannot know. It’s awkward as heck — at first — but oh, so awesome as we get into it. It’s amazing how almost impossible it is to fight when both ppl use only I-statements. :D
